A group of general students and people gathered at the capital’s Shahbagh intersection tonight (18 December) to stage a demonstration following the death of Inqilab Mancha Spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

Soon after the news of his death broke, the protesters assembled at the intersection and blocked traffic, chanting slogans such as “Who are you, who am I – Hadi, Hadi.”

The first procession began around 10:30pm from Sir A F Rahman Hall shortly after news of Hadi’s death spread across the campus. The march passed through the university’s vice-chancellor’s premises and concluded at the base of the Raju Memorial Sculpture, where protesters later held a rally.

During the demonstration, participants chanted a series of slogans condemning the killing and demanding accountability from the authorities. Slogans included calls for justice for Hadi and protests against what they described as external interference and administrative inaction.

At the same time, leaders and activists of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti brought out a separate protest procession from the Teacher–Student Centre (TSC), marching through different parts of the campus.

Another protest march was also reported from the Hall Para area of Dhaka University around 10:45pm, as demonstrations continued to spread.

The protesters vowed to continue their movement until those responsible for Hadi’s killing are brought to book.

Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, who was critically injured in a gun attack on 12 December, passed away while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital tonight.
