BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has applied for a travel pass to return to Bangladesh on 25 December.

He submitted the application to the Bangladesh High Commission in London, a diplomat at the London mission confirmed the matter.

According to sources in London, Tarique Rahman filled out the required forms for the travel pass and sent them to the Bangladesh High Commission in the United Kingdom through another person.

According to the BNP, Tarique is set to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:45am on 25 December. The party disclosed the information in a post on its official Facebook page today (18 December). 

Tarique has purchased one-way tickets for six people on a regular flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines from London to Dhaka, sources at Biman’s London office said.

The six people are Farhana Tabasmum, Abdur Rahman Suny, Zubaida Rahman, Zaima Zarnaz Rahman, Tarique Rahman, Abu Abdullah M Saleh.

Sources also said Tarique paid a total of £9,856 to purchase the tickets.

Tarique Rahman, the eldest son of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and Chairperson Khaleda Zia, was arrested in 2007 under an army-backed caretaker government and left for the UK in 2008 for medical treatment, marking the beginning of his nearly 18-year exile.
